Los Angeles continues to champion small business innovation and community empowerment — and this time, the spotlight shines on women entrepreneurs.
On May 23, 2024, Spectrum News highlighted the grand opening of the first federally recognized Women’s Business Center in South Los Angeles, hosted by the Vermont Slauson Economic Development Corporation (VSEDC). The event brought together key figures such as Mayor Karen Bass and U.S. Small Business Administration Administrator Isabel Casillas Guzman, who celebrated this milestone as a new chapter for women-owned businesses across the city.
According to the Small Business Administration, over 40% of the U.S. economic output now comes from small businesses — a figure that continues to grow as more women and entrepreneurs of color enter the marketplace. In fact, the U.S. is currently experiencing a “historic Small Business Boom,” with more than 17.5 million new business applications filed since President Biden took office, including 1.7 million in California alone.
A Sweet Touch from Art Delectables
Adding a special touch to the event was Deljah, founder of Art Delectables, who was featured and interviewed by Spectrum News during the celebration. Her team proudly catered the event, offering attendees a taste of the brand’s signature handcrafted desserts — a perfect symbol of creativity, passion, and excellence that women bring to business ownership.
Deljah’s participation highlights Art Delectables’ ongoing mission to uplift communities through artistry, flavor, and entrepreneurship — proving that empowerment can be both delicious and inspiring.
“Being part of an event that represents progress for women in business means a lot to me,” Deljah shared. “Art Delectables was born from a dream — one that now inspires others to pursue theirs.”
